What is a speed and action race Horse wise2007-11-24 21:21:32
In my 4h program there is a speed and action race. But I dont know what it is. Maybe Ill enter it but I want to know what it is.. Thanks
Answers:Speed and Action is set up with kegs, little bitty barrels about the size of a bucket.
There are 3 kegs at the end of the arena straight across, only 6' apart from each other! Not much room. Then, at the starting line there are 4 kegs in a rectangle, 10' wide x 20' deep. There is a chalk line between the kegs forming 3 sides, leaving the side open at the timeing line.
You run down the middle of the "alley" created by the 4 kegs, turn the middle keg (from either direction), run home and stop inside of the box without stepping on a line. If you do you are disqualified.
It is a timed event.
where the ACTION of the horse, depends on it's SPEED
I am in 4-H but have never heard of such races... better to ask your president.
Sounds like some kind of fun race. I would ask my leader. The names of races differ from one part of the country to the next. What some call the mailbox race is called the Pony Express Race by others. Sometimes a race of the same name is run differently in different areas. In the midwest the Flag race is run with two barrels in a straight line, and in other parts of the country it is run around three barrels set up in a triangle. You will always need to ask. It seems like Barrels and Poles are the only standard races anymore. Just enter anyway, and have a good time!
