There might not be a tackful way. Some people forget because they are busy or distracted or just plain forgetful, those types will respond very nicely when you remind them, and rush to get your money. Then there are those who "forget" because they don't want to pay for whatever reason. There is nothing tactful you can say to them except - "Hi, would you mind paying me for the braiding I did last week. I'm totally broke and need the money," smile, and wait politely while they get their wallets. If they say they can't, ask them to please put it in the mail this week, give them a reason why you need it ASAP "The farrier is coming this week and I need every penny I have to pay for Sam's shoes." If they don't come through, then you can either speak to the girl's parents, the barn manager or who ever. After that you will have to consider whether its worth going any further.

What goes around comes around. If she cheats people it will hurt her way more than it hurts you.

Check with your mom first on this, and see if she agrees. If so, then...

Tell her, your Mom said you can't braid her pony anymore until she pays you first, and for all the backpay she owes you. And tell her your Mom wants to see the money.

She doesn't forget, she is being rude. I would politely ask her and don't braid her horses mane again until she pays you up front. Be honest with her, don't beat around the bush and make yourself crazy.

If I was you I would tell her that you would not braid the horses hair if she did not pay you the day that you did it.

Next time she asks you to do it, say " Well, I would, but you haven't paid me for the last five times, so I need payment up front first ... and it would be nice to get the money for the other times, too."
