to the bridle mounts

Answers:

The bit is attached to the Cheek Straps of the bridle. I assume that your refference to "bridle mounts" refers to the Cheek Straps?

The reins are NEVER, EVER attached to the rider. They are held in certain ways BY the rider according to the rider's and horse's style of equitation. One hand (the left) for a Western Rider and a rein in each hand for an English rider.

Then the reins are attached to the bit.

The bit rests in the mouth of the horse.

The reins are run through the rings of a RUNNING Martingale. This allows the horse to extend it's head to Run and Jump. It also gives more leverage on the bit by the rider and should NEVER be used by an inexperienced rider!

A STANDING Martingale, sometimes referred to as a Tie-Down has nothing to do with the reins. It uses a bosal to attach a strong line between the horse's head and the girth strap of the saddle. This aids the horse in keeping its head down during difficult manuvers.

If you don't know how to properly set up your equipment, then get someone who is experienced in doing so to do it for you and show you how it's done so that you don't get hurt or hurt your horse.
