What is the best way to clean synthetic tack2007-11-24 21:19:13

i was recently given a dusty synthetic saddle and was wondering the best way to clean it of the dust and other debris gathered over the years. it is not leather, but has a rubbery feel and like a gel cushioun. using leather new or other such products woudl be damaging, and it is not removable, fully sewn to the saddle's seat and panels. i was wondering if it would be possible to use warm soapy water and a sponge to clean it, or if it should just be brushed off, or if there is another method that i am not farmiliar with. the manufacturer appears to be a company called wintec. also, the billets are sewn into the panels, are they removable, and would it be safe to ride without first removing them? they seem secure and in good shape, but i am not sure, because i have never seen this trait beofre. anyone with experience in cleaning synthetic tack, i would greatly apreciate your help! :)

your right you should not use regular leather care products. Synthetic tack was made to be easy to clean so you don't need oil or creams and warm soapy water will be the easiest way to clean your saddle. Wintec is a good brand of saddle and unless it is in very bad shape it is worth it to repair the saddle not buy a new one. Good Luck

wintec is a very popular brand...water and some hand soap would work. Then buff it with a rag. If any parts are breaking or falling apart, you may just want to buy a new saddle (wintecs sually run between 200-1000 dollars) because the repair may cast more then a new saddle. good luck!

I always just sprayed mine off with a hose and wiped it dry. If it's really dirty, sometimes a little bit of soap (just regular). If you're showing (or it just bugs ya) and need the dirt out of the stitching, a toothbrush works well to get rid of that.

Wintec should be easily cleaned with soap and water. Some other brands are harder to clean and shouldn't get wet.
