What is the best way to research if my paint gelding is registered in Canada where he was born2007-11-24 21:19:16

I just bought him, and the previous owner thinks he was registered, but we don't have many facts. He was born in Canada. Suggestions? I have his birthdate if that helps!

Answers:

Since you do not have a registered name or number for him, this is pretty much a lost cause. Birthdates are not any help, due to the large number of horses born on any given day. If he was registered, then he would be registered with APHA and they do not (to my knowledge) have a separate Canadian registry. Good Luck!

I would go to the APHA for help... Do you know your horse's (supposed) registered name?

This is the American Paint Horse Association. Since you live in the U.S. now, he may have been registered since his move to the U.S. If they can't help you, I bet they could help you find the Canadian equivalent of the APHA.

I wouldn't expect to get any info on your horse. I bought a horse that was supposedly 'registered', not because I wanted a registered horse, I would have bought her either way. But the guy gave me the name and # of her previous owner, who supposedly had her papers, but when I called him, he swore he'd never owned a horse. I called APHA and PtHA and neither could help me at all.

Like I said, I don't care one way or the other, she isn't a show horse. Try to contact the previous owner, but I think you're probably out of luck.
