What is the best way to teach my horse to jump
i have had my mare free jumping and i have her almost fully broke i just dont know when i should get on her while she is jumping she is comfortable walking over rails when i am on her and she has no problem with the free jumping so i am not sure how long i should free jump her before i get on her and try jumping
Answers:Hon, don't even think about going over fences or any sort of jumping until she is fully broke. She may indeed do it well without you on her, but she needs to learn how to handle your weight on the flat, in all sorts of situations before you start fences. And don't do so without a pro helping you and training you. and be careful how you pick the pro. get some recommendations. the possibilities of injury to you as well as to her are huge. Think Christopher Reeves.
well the best way is to use a hot metal pole. placed in the right place is will cause your horse to jump like hell. just remember to hold on tight.
See if you can get up to an 18'' x rail and once shes comfortable then get on her and do cavaletti work.
Heres a great Website:

Do not jump with out the help of a trained professional. If you have no experiance jumping, and neither does your horse, you stand a very good chance of getting injured. You also will teach your self, and your horse a ton of bad habits. Trust me, it will not go well. Just because she is free jumping, deffinitly does not mean she is ready to be jumped with someone on her back.
