What is the difference between a cob size and full size bridle2007-11-24 21:21:39

i have never owned a horse and go to riding classes, but am just wondering what the difference is as their heads look pretty much the same size.

Answers:

A cob size bridle is sized in between a pony bridle and a horse bridle - the length of horses heads does vary, and although you can adjust the cheekstraps, head piece etc to some extent, the bridle will fit better and look better (no flapping straps and so on) if you just buy the right size!

looks are deceiving. I have a 16.00 Friesian Stallion who is in a cob sized bridle (smaller than full) and a cob that is in a full sized bridle. and i used to own a cob mare who was in an extra full sized bridle.

Basically a cob size is larger than a pony size and a full size is larger than a cob size. Some horses even have a cob size for the head and cheek pieces, but need a full for the noseband because they have fuller faces.

welcome to the world of horses and utter confusion.

Full size is slightly bigger
There is a definate difference in sizing between cobs and lighter horses. Cobs do tend to have heads shaped differently from other horses (think somewhere between a pony shaped head and a regurlar horse), though there had been a lot of effort in breeding to give them a more refined appearance. But depending on the individual horse, I've seen horses not classified as cobs needing a bridle configured like that just because of their head size. Bridles also come in pony sized because the shape and size of the horses classified as "ponies" is very different from other horses.
