What is the easiest way to get a horses mane to stay on one side
My horse's mane is on both sides--the bottom half rests on one side of the neck, and the top half rests on the other. I'd like it to all stay to one side, but I'm not sure how. When we wash him it all stays to one side for a day or so, then it flips back and goes all weird again.
It's driving me nuts, I'd like to have his mane stay all on one side of his neck. It is uneven, some parts are shorter where the plow harness used to rest and rub it away, if that matters.
http://www.rideadraft.com/horses_sold.ht... This is the best pic I have where his mane is all weird--it's his conformation pic from before I bought him. Scroll down to the fifth picture, "St. Nik". You can see how the top half of his mane is on the right side, and the bottom half is on the left side. I want it all on the left side.
Thanks guys!
Answers:a very pretty nik indeed! when you wash his mane you mane and tail shampoo and conditioner. rinse throughly, then put in any leave in conditioner and braid his hair, the weight will help keep it down. then you can either somehow manage to keep a towel tight around his neck or get a sleezy sleeper/mane tamer

and keep on his neck. everyday for a week, rinse it out, wash it, re-apply leave in conditioner, rebraid, and put back on the mane tamer. after the first week, don't even braid his hair before putting the mane tamer back on. brush it out everyday and let it breathe for about an hour then put it back on. when you take it out of the mane tamer to let it lose undo the braids, brush it out and put some gel in it. any kind will do. it's wise to do this at night because during the day he will shake his head and mess his mane up. eventually it will stay to the side you want it to. i suggest putting it to the right because the top half is harder to put the other way than the bottom half of the mane. you may need to put the mane tamer on once a week or every time before you go to a show just to be safe.
hair gel!
braid in a few braids till it is trained to lay over to one side thats what id try but im a hair stylist and he could have a cowlick making it go over we all know cowllicks do what they want right
at night brush his mane so its all on one side and the use a mane tamer. it will cause the mane to stay on the one side for a little while at least.
