There's only one Thoroughbred. The most expensive will be those with a race record and from fashionable pedigrees. Best kind depends on what you're looking to do with them - off track TBs can be found for free or under $1,000. Trained for cross country, dressage or other things they'll be more expensive, sometimes into tens of thousands of dollars. Trained to race depends on what level - claimers can be claimed for whatever the tag is - $10k, 25k etc.

I think you mean Purebred. A thoroughbred Is a breed and they range from free to the hundred thousands.

As for prices of pure breeds any thing rare or with a very careful breeding allowance will be very expensive. A breed that's "in style" will also run a high price but not necessarily because they deserve it.

Freisans tend to be high priced but are great horses. Some thoroughbreds and arabs are incredibly expensive as can be quarter horses. And then there are dozens that most people don't even know about. Gypsy Vanners, Andulusians, Akhel Tekes and many more.

One of the most expensive TB's in the world would be Saddlers Wells. His breeding fee is private treaty but believed to be over $300,000 per mare. Race record doesn't mean anything when it comes to buying TB weanlings and yearlings as they have never seen a track. It goes by pedigree and confirmation. A couple of years ago, a Storm Cat colt brought $9.7 million and last year a Kingmambo colt brought $11.7 million at Keeneland Sales. I think the most expensive was a Forestry colt which made around $16 million.

Like someone else said, I think you mean "purebred." A Thoroughbred is a breed developed for racing, and many people cross them with other breeds to create a versatile jumping/eventing horse.
