a horse's wolf teeth could be safely removed?

Just curious and looking for opinions. :)

Answers:

Any age deemed safe by a vet. Wolf teeth should be removed as soon as they grow in. Horses need annual checks on their teeth. Molars can become sharp and cause chewing problems, cutting the inside of the horses' mouth and tongue. Geldings have more problems than mares for some reasons.

Technically, they should be removed within the first year of life. Also, many males develope what are called phantom wolf teeth, which developes under the skin. I would think that any horse could have their wolf teeth removed at any age. Seems to me it would be a huge relief to have them gone. Unless the horse has never had a bit in it's mouth. Then, it may not be necessary, unless they present other problems, likr cutting their tongues and cheeks. Males seem to develope a bigger problem with this.

I've had all of mine done within their first 6 months to a year. I would think any vet could explain any possible complications that old age might involve. Healing may be slower due to age, but otherwise, I don't see why they couldn;t be removed at any age.

Any age. I had a 19 yr old mare that had them pulled. Not sure why they were left in all those years, but it sure explained a lot of the grounding the bit she did!
