What leg muscles does one use in riding
My brother and I are in this stupid fight. He says horseback riding uses no muscle at all. But I say that it does. I know it does, I just can't explain, which muscles, and how they are used. I thought about kicking him to show off my equestrian legs, but then I would've gotten in trouble. ;-)
Answers:Have your brother go riding (with some trotting and cantering) for a couple of hours, and then have him tell you what hurts.
Seriously though--riding uses just about every muscle in your body--legs, thighs, butt, back, abdominals, arms, shoulders--honestly, can you think of any muscles you _don't_ use?!
Kicking won't do it, but a good head lock will.
Horseback riding typically uses the following muscle groups: shoulders, triceps/biceps, abdominals, back, inner and outer thighs, back of the calf. The following are several exercises you can use on a daily basis to help stretch, strengthen and tone these muscle groups.

You use all the muscles on the inside of your leg. You also use your abdominal, back arms and even neck muscles. If you've ever ridden for a long time you'd know., because they get sore.
calf muscles
butt muscles
arm muscles
stomach muscles
leg muscles
knee muscles
Trust me. I've trained my own horses, and ridden bareback at a gallop w/o falling off. I know which muscles.
At Auburn University, I heard a little story of how the Auburn Equestrian Team girls challenged some football players to go on a ride, to prove to them just how hard it is.
