What size horse/pony would I need2007-11-24 21:21:57

Hi I'm looking for a horse or pony & want to know what size I should go for (height wise) ?? I'm after more of a middle weight or cob type, I'm 5ft.5" slim build and 8stone! I have currently been exercising a 14hh MW pony and she does feel slightly small for me, but I don't want anything too big either as my children will be wanting to ride him/her occasionally (lead rein only).

Any ideas on what size horse/pony to get??

Thanks!

I dont think height matters, as long as it is a horse that is trained well enough for your level of riding. If your kids are only going to be doing lead line, then I think a gentle horse of any size would fit your needs.

I am about 5'2 and im riding in the 14 hands-16 hands area, so i suggest you go for a horse 15 hands or bigger. This way you will be able to fit comfortably and it wont be too big for your children. good luck =]]
i ride a horse that is 14.2hh and im 4"11' and i feel im the right size 4 her. you could try a horse from above 15hh so you can ride her and ur kids can grow into her. if you get a pony you dont want ur kids to be too big for her by the time they are finished growing. best of luck

I'm slightly shorter ( about an inch) than you but weigh about the same and find 15.2 to 16hh is a great fit. Recently looked at a 17hh but I feel like a pea on a drum. Would also not be overly big for the kids then either.
quator horse!
15 h sounds like a good size. I have a 16 h horse and she fits me pretty good. (im about an inch or two shorter then you) that way its big enough for you and not too big for your kids but still some room to grow. You could try getting a quater horse or a palamino. Arabians are good but tend to be on the smaller side. Good luck!
Id Say Around 14.3-15 hh Im 5.4 & I Prefer 2 Ride Smaller Around 14.2 And I Feel The Right Size For Them =] Cobs Can Also Be Quite Strong So U May Want To Look For A Part Cob Or A Well Schooled One For Your Children, I Would Recoment Welsh Cobs As Their Lovely Looking And Have Great Temperment!!
