What sort of horse to get Boarding costs

My daughter takes riding lessons. She just rides a horse at the equestrian farm, but some have mentioned, if she really begins to get into this, I may want to eventually get a horse for her, and just board it there. So, that she always has HER horse. What sort of horse would you recommend for that? How much does it cost, on average to board a horse? What sort of fees am I looking at for medical things? Maintenance? Is it worth it, or should I just let her keep riding on of the horses there on the farm? Will she have to have her own horse if she gets into jumping,to travel with?

Wow, before you jump into the horsse world - let me give you some advice on costs - First off she won't always have "her" horse. Horses are not machines and they get sick really quite often. Then you get vet bills. Think a dog is expensive? Wait till your horse / pony colics. Do you want to tell your child that you cannot afford the 7 thousand dollars in upfront surgical costs plus the several thousand extra in the post-recovery months? All the while you have to keep paying board and shoes and regular health visits. Board: depends on where you are. If you want your child to be able to ride year-round then you'll probably be at a commercial boarding stable. If you really want to ride year-round you'll need a stable with an indoor arena. Boarding stables come with all sorts of options, so the price varies a great deal. On the west coast California - around 900.00 + month + 175.00 every 6-8 weeks for shoes, Oregon - about 350.00/ month + 100.00 shoes, Washington (depends on east or west) usually around 350.00/ month + shoes.
