depends on what your horse is. if it is a quarter horse paint then you could register in both. i had a paint pinto registered in both of those associations. it ups their value a little too, being double registered.

Either are a good organization it all depends on preference. You can register a paint in either as long as the paint has Quarter horse another good breed is the pintabian

If you like the quarter-type, I say AQHA. For one thing, there is a physical breed-standard, and they've relaxed the white rule to include any horse of registered qh background. I also feel that APHA puts too much focus on color and not enough on actual performance (see breeding-stock paints), but they're both pretty good as organizations go.

This is strictly a personal preference! I myself like both, but as I am sure you know the paint horse is just a color, not a breed! A lot of your best paint horses have a great deal of QH in their pedigree. hope this helps.

i too think it's personal preference, but it makes me angry when people say that aqha horses are more versatile. that's simply not true. i've seen numerous extremely talented all around paint horses in just the 3 years i've been showing paints nationally and i don't think that quarter horses are any more versatile than paints. i know that in the quarter horse industry, the competition is much stiffer as the association and the industry is a few years ahead of the apha. this is not to say, however, that the competition isn't stiff in the apha. heck, you should just get a double registered paint/quarter horse and get the best of both worlds.
