Whats the best way to sell a horse

I have a 6yo bay Standardbred geld, rides eng/west but needs a experienced rider I don't want to sell him, but I am accumulating toooo many horses and need to down size. I have never sold any of my animals, this is real hard. Give me some selling pointers please.

Advertise on websites such as dreamhorse.com, and equine.com. Put up ad's at local tack stores, and shows.

When you are selling a horse, always be honest, it's ok to play up your horses positive features, but don't lead people to believe your horse is something it isn't, you will just anger people and lose credibility. Take lots of good pictures of your horse, take some of him standing still with out a saddle on from a profile view, and take some of him moving while being ridden. Picture ad's make a huge difference, you will get a lot more responses.

Also always be prompt in responding to e-mails and calls on your horse, be polite to your potential buyer, and dont be difficult about things like setting up a vet check. Another thing is that its great if you want your horse to go to a good home, but don't go overboard on qualifications whoever wants your horse must meet. As soon as a seller mentions to me they want refrences from my vet, ferrier, trainer, and everyone else, I just figure why bother. I have the best vet in the area, i take great care of my horses, but I really don't need to jump through hoops when i'm the one buying the horse. If you talk to the seller enough and watch them handle your horse you will be able to get a good picture if they are a decent match for your horse.
