Whats the different PMU/ Orphan2007-11-24 21:22:43

I have looked up information about PMU foals, but all the ones i have found are yearlings or older, we've already got a saddlebred/spotted saddle horse cross from an auction that was WILD...she was 8 months and Never been touched....my hubby and a friend of ours had fun catching her.

We are wanting something on a bottle?

Again, you can check http://cyberfoal.com , but I agree with the poster above me... bottle foals are often pushy and agressive, because they do not have mom to teach them any limitations, and you can't discipline like mom does. I have seen orphaned foals turn out to be dangerous adults that rear, bite and kick at will.

What you need to do is find a reputable breeder who invests some time into his /her foals. Most foals that are imprinted from birth and are handled daily are friendly, affectionate, and easy to train, but they still know where to draw the line between horses and humans.

Mares are bred for their urine (PMU Ranches) for a menopause drug. Their babies are PMU foals. It pretty much breeding without looking and then unnnaturally making baby an orphan (not is all cases, but most).

Orphans are born of natural causes, they ar emostly planned babies, and mom rejects them (or doesn't have milk or dies).

You need to be really careful with bottle feeding. Bottle fed babies can become TOO imprinted on humans causing training and safety problems later in life (getting in your space, thinking you are another horse and trying to be dominant over you, etc.) Ask a vet about options that best keep these things from happening.

agrees 100% with mom and Melanie
