the difference between a PMU foal and a orphan is that the PMU foals are normally weaned but just barely,at the youngest age possible before being sent off to market,orphans had no mother or mother that wanted to care for them in the first place therefor have to be bottle fed

Orphan foals can be hard to keep, they just dont live on the bottle like sheep and other animals do.

If i were you i would go about trying to find a 6 month old just weened foal.

Another thing is saddlebreds are pretty hot and they are hard to train if you have never worked with them before.

PMU foals are foals who's moms were bred and rebred for use of premarin, a hormone replacement drug for women. In order to make the drug you need pregnant mare urine. Once the baby is born after a few days on some farms.

These foals are then auctioned off and sometimes sent for slaughter.

I would stay away from auctions, those horses are there for a reason, and its usually because they are nuts, well from my experience.

My best bet for you is, to find a 6 month old QH who is ready to learn from you. Or just by a dead broke 10 or 12 year old horse.

PMU= Pregnant Mares Urine. These mares are bred for the progesterone output in their urine (for human progesterone replacement). They are kept pregnant and in very small stalls during their pregnancy while they can't move around...all they can do is stand eat PEE in urine catchers and poop. When it is time for them to foal, they are put out to pasture. The babies hopefully find good homes as soon as they are weened as their mares are bred again on their first heat after foaling.

Orphans... Some thoroughbred Mares or show horses are bred for their top quality foals, but they do not always nurse or raise their own babies, another mare who has foaled is brought in to nurse this top quality foal. The foals from the Nursing mares are often left to starve and die, or they are bottle fed and adopted out to homes...sadly without their mothers first milk they may have health and lameness issues their whole life.
