Whats the most extreme color change you have seen from the color a foal was born How about seasonal2007-11-24 21:22:44

My friend has a 2-week old filly that was born black (gray overo mare bred to black QH stud) and has a few white hairs on its body. The owner of the stud said the filly would probably turn gray. I used to have a red roan paint breeding stock mare that would turn this horrible lavendar color in the winter (she had alot of blue roan in her background) and I was just wondering what YOU have all seen in color changes!

weirdest thing i saw was a red dun foal who was born looking pink, im not talking that kinda pink chestnuts are born, it was kinda a pale bubblegum pink. she looked like a champage, her eyes were greenish and her skin wasnt pink like you would expect, it was chocolatey. it shed out an dhse turned a normal looking red dun, nothing fancy or breath catching, just a plain ol red dun. same foal crop got a red dun foal who was born a fawn color, but he was the heaviest marked dun baby i ever saw. it was wild, he was so striped even his inner thighs were striped, he had excess barring on his neck, reverse barring on his legs and a frosted tail. he looked like a grulla only red. that one stayed an odd color, he was a funny buckskin-fawn color on his body with very deep dark red points.

Last year in the Young Horse Teaching and Research Program, we had a couple of horses that just refused to decide on a color. One in particular was especially crazy. George started out a very very light brown as a foal, almost looked like a buckskin without the dorsal stripe. As a weanling he became a very very dark bay/brown, with a couple of white spots. Finally as a yearling he started to gray out on us! I still have no idea what to call him.
