Where can I buy gently used saddles, rains, bits, briddles,etc2007-11-24 21:22:46

As well as taking riding lessons, I am thinking about building or buying a "dummy" horse to practise horsemanship with, so that I am prepared for later in the year, when I will most likely get my real horse. What do I need to buy and where can I buy it(other than Horsetopia. I am already looking there)?

Many times you can get good deals off of ebay. I think you get a better deal on the used items off of ebay than the new ones (the new tack is usually cheap leather, though it looks good in the pic). If you're buying online make sure it's a brand name you know so you know what quality to expect.

Craigslist also may have good deals. I'd wait on something like a bridle until you actually have your horse since you don't know what size his head will be.

I used to volunteer at a horse rescue and we would purchase used saddles, rains, etc. on ebay (go figure haha). We found them to be a cheaper option and if you look good enough you can find some great things for your horse!

well i live in texas also and it is easy to find a saddle shop but hard to find a used saddle. Try local horse arenas and offer them a price. Or ebay will have some.

The best place to go would be a local consignment shop so that you can really look and even negotiate prices. If it is tack you are not going to use on a horse ebay.
