However, if you are planning on buying a horse do not buy tack until you have the horse. It is a huge waste od money to buy tack that is not going to fit you and your real horse comfortabley. It is so much more important that the saddle fits the horse than most know so I would save the money and just buy some stirrup leathers and hook them on something. Most local sales barns usually have some decent tack. Tesky's over in Weatherford also has nice stuff. I also live in DFW and finding tack usually is not hard with all of the horse people we have here. Ebay is good if you know what you are looking for and the seller has a good rep. Good Luck!

Go to your local horse auction. They always sell tack first, lots of it in great condition at very good prices. And if you ask, most of the sellers will allow you to come to the ring and take a look as they are selling! I know because my brother in law is an auctioneer and i've been around the country at horse auctions.

I've had good experience purchasing on Ebay.com and craigslist.org. Craigslist is an awesome source for pretty much anything. If you want new inexpensive tack and supplies I would highly recommend countrysupply.com (aka horse.com). They have good products, really cheap and shipping is free if your order is more than $50. Shipping is also prompt.

some tack stores sell used saddles and such. pull out your phone book and start calling around. also garage sales, and newspaper addsalso www. dreamhorse.com also has tack listings.
