Where can I find a nice Hunter Jumper Show Horse2007-11-24 21:22:48

They're smaller horses, and usually the strides can't compete with the larger Thoroughbred and Warmbloods.

If you still want to go for it, look into trainers in your area. Usually the competitive barns have good connections and could point you in the right direction.

If you're looking for a smaller horse though - think about a Thorougbred or even a Quarter Horse. Sorry hun, but most Arabs aren't built for the hunter/jumper ring.

Do some soul-searching and be sure of what you want to do with your horse, then do some research. Find the breed/build and temperament that is best suitable to what you want to do... Then and only then start looking. Your local newspaper classifieds, your local feed shops, at hunter/jumper shows, breeders in your area, etc. There are also websites that you can search for horses near where you live. I do not suggest buying a horse without first seeing it in person, trying it and having a prepurchase exam done on it... unless you have just a ton of experience and are not afraid to be possibly let down. www.dreamhorse.com is a nice site to look at horses, see how different types of horses are used and to get an idea of price range and what you want.

Usually, you can find a stable that trains Hunter Jumper Show Horses, or a trainer that teaches lessons. They can tell you if they know a breeder or a private person that maybe selling a horse. They will not be so bias and maybe know the breeder that is repetitble.

An arabian? They aren't very good jumpers but some are kind of good I guess. I would suggest asking your trainer and friends. Also look on the internet as that is one of the main sources today for finding horses.

I highly recommend a Trakehner..not an Arabian...The Trakehner has a longer, larger body but is a wonderful jumper and very graceful...The Olympics use Trakehners...Look up anything on Abdulah (Trakehner) and you will see what I mean
