Where do I buy bantamine2007-11-24 21:22:53

I need to know where to buy bantamine because I had just had a horse tie up and we thought it was colic and we didn't have any banamine. I have looked everywhere and can't find it. I live in ohio. I know that I need electrlites for tying up but it is still good to have bantamine. Please help!

Banamine is a prescription drug. That means that it is controlled and only a vet or licensed pharmacy can sell it.

You can buy it from your vet, or you can get a prescription from your vet in order to buy it from a catalog or internet company.

Your vet may or may not give you a prescription for it, sometimes if it is something that they sell they will not write a prescription for it unless you find it at a price that is cheaper than what they can sell it for.

Banamine is available in paste, powder, pills, and injectable (depending if it has been compounded or not and where you are getting it from, you can find it in all of these forms). Use whatever works the best for your horse, and if you need quick results, then only use the injectable and do it through IV administration. That means you need to have the experience and knowledge on how to give this shot before it comes time to give it. Your vet will often not sell you banamine unless they know that you can give the shot or if they teach you how to do it. Also you can give it as an IM shot, so it will take about 15 to 30 minutes longer to take effect than the IV shot, but will work faster than the other methods still. The IM (muscle shot) most vets will tell people to do because it is safer than making an accident with giving an IV shot if you do not have a lot of experience with it. It is safe to give IM and is labeled for doing so on all of the bottles that I have of it.
