Which horse should I buy
Me=17, been riding for 8 years english pleasure, trail riding, western pleasure, dressage, and jumping for a few months. All these horses I'm listing, I feel confident on.
I can't decide! The options are:
1. 8 yo Thoroughbred Ex-racer gelding. Off track for couple weeks. Smooth gaits, looks good. Bad ground manners. When I rode him, he was a little buddy-sour, but I've heard that it's normal for TB's right off the track, because they don't really get to have friends on the track, but they'll get used to it. He was fun to ride, would make good jumper/dressage. 17hh($400)
2. 3 yo Paint gelding. looks like Hidalgo! saddle-broke but a little green. When I rode him he did what I asked, he would back up, canter both leads. He was smart, eager to please. nice gaits. very cute, friendly horse.($1600 obo)
there are a few more but these are the ones I'm really considering right now. Either way, I'd have a lot of work but I'm good with that. I'm looking that needs working with.
Answers:Well if you want a project, the ex-racer would work well. He sounds as if you may have to work a little with him , but according to friends with ex-racers they become wonderful riding companions!
The paint gelding sounds like a good buy if you don't have enough time for a more inexperienced horse or if you want to immediately hit the show ring. He sounds very pretty and like he would be a very agreeable partner.
