Which is better, Copper or Sweet Iron
Which is lighter in a horses mouth? Does copper produce a sweet taste too? I kinda don't like Sweet Iron because it rusts.
Answers:My gelding loves his sweet iron, 3/4 port roller. He dislikes any other bite but that one.
My mare hates ports, roller or anything. She loves her steel tom Thomb or D ring snaffle. If I put my gelding's bit in her mouth, her attitude is a little more negative than if I used the other bits.
So, I go with my horse's preference. Happy horse will sometimes lead to a happy ride lol.
I like copper way better! I don't think sweet iron keeps the mouth as moist.
I only use Stainless Steel or copper...I ride English so no use for sweet iron. But, whatever the horse likes the best and is most responsive to...you can't go wrong like that.
I'm prob. going to get some thumbs down for this, but I really think that it doesn't make a difference. I have used copper, sweet iron and regular iron snaffles interchangable with my horses over the years, and have never really had a horse that showed a preference for the type of metal.
The only type of bit material I would recomend against is a rubber bit, from my experience rubber snaffles teach the horse it is ok to lean on the bit.
copper as it is warmer on the horses mouth also the horse will mouth it more
The textures are ment to help your horse keep a moist mouth.
