Copper or Sweet Iron?

Answers:

The ligthness of the bit weight wise if that is what your asking won't matter as much as the rider's hands. Always remember about bits and their severity. "It's not the bit in the horses mouth, but the hands on the bit". Copper by weight would be less heavy than iron. Horses, like people I'm sure have their likes and dislikes. Copper is suppose to keep a horses mouth from getting dry. Sweet iron naturally rust and is suppose to have a sweet taste to a horse. Hope this helps.

Depends how thick each bit is. Personally I wouldn't put copper in a horses mouth, have you tasted it? No wonder they slobber.

It really does not make much of a difference. If you are looking for a soft bit, try a loose ring with the plastic "happy mouth" coating. Those are great for young horses. Copper is very soft, and is usually reserved for horses that need to salivate more. I had a copper bit and you could see teh teeth marks on it.

Well, I originally used a regular snaffle bit...and we recently switched him to a copper bit and since then he has been much softer and light. But, which is actuall lighter in his mouth I am not sure? I would say the copper since it has done wonders on my Quarter Horse =D

I always had good luck with a sweet iron bit, but my horse had a very hard mouth. However I did have a young filly that responded well to copper. I think it depends on what you and horse are comfortable with. As far as weight goes the copper is lighter.
