Which to sort out first - Livery or Horse
I would however ask your riding school to help advise you on purchasing a horse suitable to your level, and your build. As for routines, horses do adjust to whatever routine you set them in - as long as you give them time. I currently own an ex-racer who in her younger days was stable kept pretty much 24/7 - she now lives out 24/7, all year round. So don't worry too much about a horse having a set routine, most of the time a horse's routine has been set to suit the owner - and not the horse!
Another thing to consider is if you did keep the horse at your riding school, you may be able to reach an agreement whereby they use your horse for lessons, and give you a discount on livery fees. Thus saving you money, and getting your horse exercised for free and kept in condition.
You should definintely find a livery yard first, they absolutely wont think you are stupid, most yards are scathing about people who buy a horse before thay have found a yard. You will probably get offers of help buying your horse from the people at the yard too, they may even know of one that will suit you and it is always much better to buy a horse who comes recommended and where you know the history. As for the management of the horse, you really need to decide how you want your horse to live to suit your lifestyle and ideas, in or out etc and look for a horse and yard that will suit you, living out is better for you and the horse unless you plan to ride A LOT, horses that live out for most of the year tend to be more hardy too and need less vet attention. Good luck!
hey! first off you're not going to look silly checking out liveries before you have a horse - it will make you look like a responsible owner who is sourcing out the best accommodation for him!
