Which to sort out first - Livery or Horse2007-11-24 21:22:54

Theres no point in buying a horse and then having nowhere to keep him now is there?

When you do go and look at these yards can I suggest you arrive without notice - that way you can see what way the owners keep their yard - for example many owners would do a huge clean up before the prospective clients arrive up - by arriving unannouned you'll see if they maintain a high level of clenliness and care all the time. Also most yards who do care for the animals properly will have no problem with you just calling on spec.

Also be sure that you sort out the inclusions and exclusions of your livery - eg - worming/feed/ etc.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your new horse when you get him

1. Find the horse you desire. Look around. It may take a while, be prepared. You need to know the height, temperament, breed and gender of your horse before boarding it.

2. Having found the horse, now find livery. Remember all the details you need.

3. Finally, buy the horse. Then pay for livery.

hello, ive had 3 horses in the uk and i now live in spain and have one here. i really would look at livery yards first, they could be a help in putting you in contact with a suitable horse for sale. you need to look at turn out wether they do diy or full livery, you want yourself and your horse to be happy with where you choose to stay and to make sure they have a place available. dont feel you will look stupid at all ,you will look like you are looking for the best place possible to keep your horse. kelly
I would find a good stable first and a good trainer. I would consider taking riding lessons and even possibly leasing a horse for a while BEFORE purchasing a horse of your own.
