Which to sort out first - Livery or Horse2007-11-24 21:22:54

The kind of horse you have your eye on now, may not be the right horse for you in the long run.

Taking this slow approach helps you to not make costly and even dangerous mistakes.

buy the horse but dont keep it yet . find livery then pay the firt few months of it then pick up the horse and youve got livery and the horse
Well, some stables won't keep stallions or larger draft breeds, and some do feeding/cleaning while others require the horse owner to. Some have trails and riding arenas, some are just stables and you have to go elsewhere to ride. So you should research your options and decide what TYPE of horse you are interested in getting, so you have a better idea of what you will require of the stable you will board at. Then start looking into boarding and settle on a few you like. Be aware that some of the really good ones usually have a waiting list! Once you've narrowed it down to a few you like, then start shopping for the actual horse. Once you've selected that, you can arrange with the stables for the actual boarding of the actual horse.

I used to have an Arab cross, and will be getting a pair of drafts, so I've been doing the same thing!

Best of luck to you!
