Which would you choose2007-11-24 21:22:55

Rant over. Now. You said that you're looking for a horse that you can showjump with. However, every single one of the horses that you looked up were Dressage horses. Why?

I advise that you look around you for horses that are more suitable for you. You can find a FUNCTIONAL horse that isn't so ridiculously expensive for a 13 year old. But it will still be a good partner. And I recommend you take a trusted professional with you- they'll be able to asses the horse's level compared to yours and match you up sufficiently.

Hello,

I have to say that I always choose a horse because of confirmation and temperament. Never I repeat never on looks.

The confirmation needed for jumping is different than for dressage. If you are looking for a 3 day eventer then you will need a good combination of both.

If you are unsure about confirmation, have a good look at the proportions of horses that excel in a given area. Look at stifle length and back length.

If a horse has poor confirmation for the task at hand then you are just buying a problem waiting to happen. So have a look at the links I have given. Get some knowledge about what you need in confirmation and then go shopping.

When looking at photo's you want a pic of the horse standing square, side rear and front. That way you can see the confirmation. If they wont provide these pic's then they are trying to hide something from you. You also want to see a free jump, this shows the horses ability without a rider interfering with it's action. A horse who likes to jump will do well in free jumping as it is doing it because it wants to.

Once you have got good confirmation, then you can go for looks. That way you will get a horse who can do what you want. Looks can not jump but a jumper can look good.

I wish you all the best.
