Whick way should i ride2007-11-24 21:22:55

i am possibly going 2 start horse riding lessons next spring, and dont know wether i should lear English or Western. Which is better? Pros and Cons? I REALLY need to know! I found a place that does both, so it is what ever I want. Which one should i do??

Answers:

I tried both, and stuck with western

Western:

PROS: *easier to steer the riens

*cow work, barrel racing, mountain riding, pole bending

*more common in canada & some of the states

CONS: *big heavy saddles

ENGLISH:

PROS: *more common in Europe

* showing, jumping

*improves your posture (western should too I suppose)

*saddles are lighter and easier to do up

CONS: *I found it hard to control the horse and steer it with the type of reins they use and the strap instead of the horn

*It seems like you have to do it more proper while western has less rules

It depends what kind of events you would want to do while riding and how much time and effort you wanna put into it

English-I ride english it's super fun. English events like dressage showjumping and crosscountry are fun events.English is very simple. Western is quite complicated.The saddle is hard to put on,those liatards that you were to shows for western are a pain in the tush to slip into.(I used to ride western) I guess western is nice because it has that pommle that begginers to grasp onto.

I would recommend Western for beginners. It is a little easier then English if you are on a good horse. With western you can do Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, and Cow Work. English is a little harder then Western. It involves a different kind of steering called Direct Reining. You also have to post at the trot. You can do Jumping, Dressage, and 3 Day Eventing with English. It is really all up to you though. Do some research and decide which one sounds more fun. This is just my suggestion or opinion.
