White spots on my horse
White spots on my horse2007-11-24 21:22:56
My horse is a brown Quarter horse and he is getting these little white spots probabily the size of little pebbles and i have no clue what they are. He is 9 yrs old. Please Help!
Answers:Are they in random places on his body? Is the hair also white? Is so, they are probably birtcatcher spots...they can randomly appear and disappear. If the skin is scabby or it is where your saddle sits then you may be dealing with a fungus or pressure points from the saddle.
Could be rainscald or ringworm. Best bet would be to check with your vet.
They're probably what is called Birdcatcher spots, small white spots that appear on a horse, sometimes not until later in life, and some times they'll go away on their own.
Of course, just to be safe, make sure the spots aren't just showing up in areas where your saddle touches... sometimes an improperly fitting saddle can rub and cause white spots.
If the spots are by his whithers, they may be saddle sores, which signify an improper fitting saddle. If not saddle sores, look to the other answers. Thanks! Hope I helped a little!
I have a 9 year old brown qh as well I have never noticed that on him before. I would definately call your vet. Horses are very good at hiding pain and distress in minor cases.
