good luck : )
you can find whitening shhampoo for the same price as normal horse shampoo.
Go to the drug store or Wal Mart. The shampoo old blue haired ladies use does a great job on white and gray horses. We used on a pair of Percherons for parades. Works great !!!
Please don't put bleach on your horses body. It will hurt him. Bluing mixed with baby shampoo works great. Make sure to rinse him well so he doesn't look purple.
try white and brite works every time
using your own shampoo on your horse is a good way to whiten there coat. just rinse them off and put it on. use a dandy brush and rub it against the hair. rinse that off and do it again if you want to. that worked with my friends grey/"white" coat.
Do what the groomers of the Clydesdales at Anhauser Busch do when they take the horses and beer wagon to parades. (told to me by one of the groomers)They use Flowers of Sulfer to whiten those beautiful "feathered" feet.
Get it at your Pharmacy.
You wet the hores's hair and rub it in. It will turn bright lemon yellow. DO NOT brush it out until the hair is COMPLETELY dry. Then bush it out and you have WHITE!
Best wishes
Just in case anyone is reading this who does not fully understand...the hair has to have been white to begin with, just dirty...not a different color. No it will not turn a sorrel mane white! LOL! ...YES, I HAVE been asked that!
I had one, but already stated. Mrs. Stewarts Bluing. inexpensive, safe in your laundry soap isle and works WONDERS, adds a tint of blue... making the white sparkle! Needs to be mixed, comes in concentrate form.
If you don't want to go hunting down shampoos you can use betadine it works great and won't hurt your horse, BLEACH MAY HURT YOUR HORSE I would not use bleach.
Something I haven't seen mentioned here is plain ole baking soda. Wash your horse and make a wet paste of the baking soda and rub it in, not really hard but get in on all the hair good. Let it dry on then rinse out. Works especially well for those of us with hard water which will stain the white coats.
i just shower him,, and with the hose high water pressure and close to the horse and scrub with a sponge and use some human shampoo, bluing, just like the people above me have said.. :] i always use baby powder before shows! and during the show actually! i use a sponge, i put the baby powder on a dry sponge, and dab it on! hope this helps! :]
My daughter uses Eye Envy on her horses. It isn't very expensive and is all natural. It was made for dogs and cats but works great on her horses. Apparently alot of people who show their horses use it. She orders from this site. Good luck!
