Adding on or... elaborating on what she said.

You can't go by JUST! gender to decifer a smart horse from a dumb one. Alot comes from lineage/ bloodlines! Also some horse breeds may appear "dumber" but it can also be a stubborn streak... or lack or experience!

My personal opionion- agree or don't agree with me! In my experience, I would choose a mare over a gelding and stallion! If you can get past thier mood swings i believe they will give you more heart than a gelding or stallion will. This is just a personal opionion from my past experiences. I know many don't agree with me. And they are entitled to thier own opinion... as am I!

I think they are all equally smart, the question should be which is easier to train. I have no concrete evidence to back this up but I think Geldings are easier to work with

I absolutely agree. After having a stallion once I went back to mares, and wouldn't look to buy a gelding at all. But there are always exceptions, my friends Arab gelding is as smart as a sheepdog and some mares are stupid. But generally mares evolved habits to lead the herd to safe water and grazing, so are the most attentive and quickest learners. Stallions evolved to fight and look good, and geldings are overgrown foals.

I swear by mares and I am an ametuer horse rider. i trained my mare by myself no problem! I couldn't teach my gelding a thing though! As for stallion, I have no Idea
