Who feels sad about Barbro2007-11-24 21:22:57
As sad as Barbaro's story is he was one of the lucky ones. That horse was pampered compared to the majority of horses, horses are hurt everyday on the track, I do not feel sorry for Barbaro, I feel sorry for those that cannot be given the second chance that he was given.
If you asked this question in the horse racing category they would say the same
Was a sad thing. Similar in some ways to Ruffian. I was only 10 when Ruffian had her tragic race. She was awesome and her will to run is what ended up killing her. I watched the ABC movie about her on TV last night. If you missed it, it will be available on DVD June 12.
its sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad to think about such a powerful and beautiful creature such as barbaro never running again. its very depressing thinking that all he wanted to do was run but he ended up dead. i will never forget watching that race and seeing barbaro like that. i wish so badly that i couldve helped! :'(
he tuoched amercias heart!!!!!!everyone loves barbaro!!!
It's sad what happened to him, but in the long run it was probably best to euthanize him. He would never been able to run like he would have wanted, and with that kind of injury, he wouldn't be able to mount a mare for breeding, so the only way to have him standing at stud would to be removing his sperm and artificially inseminating the mares. He will live on in memories, though.
While what happened to him is tragic, it's mearly a symptom of a cruel and flawed racing industry. He got off lucky compared to the tragic fate of many racing horses. Thousands are bred each year, and maybe one hundred make it to the top levels. What do you think happens to the rest? While some do manage to find wonderful, loving homes outside the racing industry, sadly, most do not. These horses bred for racing are a genetic mistake. Their frames are too large for their fraglie legs, and conformation problems often arise later due to the fact that they are not bred for overall soundness, only speed. Combine this with the fact that they are started far earlier than they should be, and are often given pain masking drugs before running, and you end up with alot of chronically lame or dead horses. The end for over twenty percent of race horses? The slaughterhouse. What happened to Barbaro is sad, but what has and will happen to tens of thousands of other horses is the real tragedy.
It is sad when any horse has to go through pain let alone be run hard. i rescue Race horses from the bitter fact that many go to slaughter. I agree with Mojo we as a society don't realize what those horses are put through. They are treated very well being a race horse they live in barns eat the best food have a chiropractor, have massages regularly but lots still get hurt in the process. It's never easy to watch as one breaks on the track or if they even come off sore. But if I can save one or two a year then that's what I do. And if I had the money I'd rescue more. But sometimes we just don't have the money. It is sad and I hope that everyone realizes that people like me do care and would love to save more.
Barbaro was murdered. Racing is something that needs to be stopped or highly changed!!
barbaro was an awesome horse i am very saddened but did u hear he has a full brother
I think so too! Poor thing, although many race horses get injured ot killed everyday, just they are not famous so we dont hear about them...I think racing needs to be changed, people in the industry have reputations of treating their horses very badly! ;(
I hadn't really followed the story, then I watched a documentary and it made me think about Seabiscuit. At least he never had a shattered leg. It really was sad.
