Who feels sad about Barbro2007-11-24 21:22:57

(That's Barbaro, BTW.)

yes it is sad that it was televisied, horses break down all the time from pleasure horses to eventers and race horses, even pasture horses how about feeling sorry for them also instead of this one that happened to be on national television
sure i do but that's kinda old news. besides, he was lucky. because he was a star, he got lots of pampering and extra special, high-tech care. other horses that deserve that around the world, ones that people are super attached to, don't get that for their horses; they're just put down right then. their horses don't get that and have to suffer, but it is sad
I cried when he got hurt and when he lost his battle that he fought so hard. He was an amazing horse and his story was way too tragic. Too many racehorses have tragic stories as well.
me, i wanted him to win the triple crown
It was a very sad story. I have to admit I cried for him, and the miriad untold stories like his.

Unfortunately this sort of thing happens all too frequently in the racing world. The problem is these horses are still growing, and their skeletal and musculoskeletal systems have not finished growing. Therefore the impacts and pressures created while racing can often be very detrimental.

At least these days equine medicine is more advanced, so we don't have to euthanize the animals as soon as they get hurt. Also public awareness has increased options for those Thoroughbreds who are no longer useful on the track... They can go on to loving homes.
