Who here ride their horse bitless
Last year I got my first horse
I had a hard time controling him, I tied several different bits and no change in his behavior. Then I tried a bitless bridle, my horse was calm, and responcive.
Any one else try this
Answers:Yes I got the bitless bridle from an ad in the magizene. I show a lot so I need a bridle with a bit. But I also ride bareback A LOT. It really helps with my balance, and at first when I did it, I really pulled on my horses mouth so it hurt his mouth because I used his bridle with the bit. Then I I found the bitless bridle and I used it on him only for bareback riding. Then he was best I have ever ridden him when I first put the bitless bridle on him. It doesnt work on all horses, but some horses show you they dont need a bit by doing this. Now I show with NO bit and the old bridle with the bit I had, well I sold it on ebay! I win all my shows now. I have at least seen 20 times on the judges marks is "How do you get him so round with no bit?" And they also say "Nice bend, especially for not having a bit!" I love it! And my horse is happier too.
did you try having his teeth floated first? or try a different bit?
i LOVE riding bitless, but i hate the idea of "the bitless bridle" just another way to make a rich person richer.
he may have a mouth that is overly sensitive, he may need his teeth done, or he may just have had bad experiences with bits. However I love to ride with only a lead rope and halter. it is very exilerating. make sure that he doesn't need his teeth done though, cause that can lead to serious eating problems.
Yeah, I occasionally rode my last horse bitless...but not using a bitless bridle. I used either a halter, or took the bit off my bridle. Worked well enough, I suppose, but I wouldn't have gone cross-country with it.
Can we say hackamore? I ride mine that way all time! Thats because they are broke! And I got tired of one of them constantly chewing or playing with a bit...
I use bitless bridles when my horse is being submissive, a bit when he's being a bit of a pain to turn. Depending on the circumstances, a bitless bridle can be better than a bit or worse! It depends on the horse's general behavior, how the horse was trained, the purpose of the ride, & the mood of the horse. It also depends on if the rider is jerky with the reins. (Giving mixed signals.)
well some horses do better with a bit or a hack more it depends how the horse is. for a impale every horse does not Liston to a bit but you put a hack more on him and you can put little kids on him. so it all bends on the horse. so good luck
When I was jsut riding mine around the house and in the fields alot of the time I rode bareback and with just a halter and lead rope. But if I was ever near the road or anything I always used all my gear and also a bit. Are you sure you have it in the right position. I had to be shown where mine should sit as to not cause the horse any discomfort.
yeah, your horse probably has a more sensitive mouth, and you may have been using too harsh of bits.
Yep!
