Best of Luck!
I don't use a "bitless bridle" but I do use a hackmore. It has a noseband and small shanks. I love it and so do my horses. If your horse is trained, they can go without a bit. A bit is more or less for the rider. I'll agree that yes some horses do need them but if you can get them to work without it why use it? I barrel race without a bit, my horses work just as good as the others. My grandfather does cutting without a bit! Way to go on trying something different for your horse!!
I am glad it worked for you. the bitless bridle is a great tool that spares a horses mouth. I prefer one when going on a hack or just riding through the pasture
Some horses just enjoy working that way better. My mare when i first started training her acted like what you described your horse. I finally quit with the bits and rode her in a halter and lead rope and she loved it. so when i started riding other placed i used a hackamore. some horses just get freaked out and some ask "why did you torture me with this? i'm trying to do the best i can for you!" sure some may need their teeth floated, but there are pleanty of competions you can enter that use hackamores, bosal hackamores, and bitless bridles. I do believe that a bitless bridle is more dangerous though because you have no leverage and you pull directly on the horses nose, and you have to put quite a bit of pressure on to make them realize what you are trying to communicate. but use whatever works for your horse and makes him comfortable and perform his best
Some horses are better in a hacamore then a bit or another problem it may be the horse may need its teeth floated the bit might be bothering its teeeth
Yeah bitless bridles are gr8. My best friend uses those on her horses and it really works better than bridles with bits
If i ride my horse with out a bit it's usually just a halter but i know plenty of people that use them.. Also you may have been having problems with your bit because he still may have his wolf teeth you may want to look into that
I have some that ride with bits and some I ride in side-pulls. I have found that some prefer the bits and some don't and when I break a horse to ride, I let them choose which one they work best in.
If your horse prefers a bitless bridle and is controllable, keep him in it. You will get a much more willing partner and you will both enjoy the ride better!
I ride bitless on my younger horse but my mare thinks she can over power me when i do not have her bit in. so i will ride with one. but i have to say i love riding with out a bit,.
