Who is your favorite famous horse trainer and why?

Mine is definitely Monty Roberts because he is amazing! =)

Answers:

Sally Swift- she changed the way that riders ride and how they train horses years before the natural horsemanship people started coming out.

She was incredible to see in person. The author of Centered Riding and Centered Riding II. Her students also branched out into the Visible Horse and Rider. It gave everyone a new perspective of what they were doing while riding and training. Basically she started a revolution in riding and gave people the idea to look for new ways to see and think about things.

There are so many great ones out there to choose from, I really have a favorite for each discipline or training style. But, Mrs Swift really had the biggest effect on my life, my training ideas, my riding, and my teaching methods.

John Lyons- he's like a legend in the Western circuit. i like his methods on working with "hard to handle" horses.

Monty Roberts is, in my opinion, a sham. i totally agree with his methods but the guy riggs his shows. he did one back at my barn 6 years ago and all my friends and i worshipped him at the time and forked our $85 to see him. anyways long story short he gets this "wild" horse in the ring and has a rider on him in 30 minutes. well the crowd was amazed but those of us from the barn have known the colt since birth and several of us had actually ridden this so called "wild horse" so it just turned me off of him as a person.

Kenny Harlow. He was one of John Lyons' first students and uses the same methods. My husband and I met him at an Expo and he worked with a difficult stallion we had. In one hour, he was the first person to have that horse's respect. A few years later we worked with Kenny privately, and he started one of our 2 yr olds under saddle and showed my husband how to do it with our other 2 yr old. We start all our horses that way now.

Clinton Anderson. Not only is he very witty and can keep a crowd entertained, he knows his buisness and he does it right and doesn't confuse you.

The trainer I have right now. She rocks! She's the best rider I know and the best jumping trainer I have had.
