Why are horses scared of snakes2007-11-24 21:23:00

I dont know why horses are deadly scared of snakes...i know ALOT about horses but i dont know why they are scared of snakes!

Answers:

Horses are natural (instinctively) protective of their legs. And they have an instic to sinc out danger, so they know snakes are dangerouse, therefore they are warey around snakes.. but not all horses are affraid of all snakes, my mare wasn't affraid of a grass snake that was near her while she was grazing.

Horses are smart, if your out on a trail ride just watch your horse, they'll tell you when theres danger near. i always feel so safe when I'm riding my horse, she can see and hear things i can't, and run alot faster! :)

It's just a natural instinct. They know that snakes bite and when they see this small animal slithering around in the grass it catches them off guard and scares them! They are flight animals =)

Not all horses are scared of snakes. Some are just reacting to their instincts.

When you think about it horses don't have much to defend themselves with but their speed and hooves. Teeth too but that would be hard to bite small animals as well as kick small animals with hooves so horses are often spooked by strange things.

To the point, Its a natural instinct in most horses to spook when they see a snake because they're not sure whats going to happen but their afraid of what they can do.

Mine wasn't afraid of snakes. One a little gardener snake got into her stall and she didn't care at all.
