It may not be rocket science, BUT I was only asking cos I needed to know, have only recently moved from the UK, and some terms and words are used differently, so don't be patronizing please.

The reason I wanted it in context was there is a difference. There is nothing a horse (and a lot of riders) enjoy more than a bloody good gallop. I feel sorry for some sport horses who are kept in barns, they are to valuable to turn out, and they spend their whole lives in an arena or a show ring, just doing one thing, and that's a shame.

I have bought horses that have been owned by people who just want to gallop everywhere, so as soon as the horses feet touch the grass they are off, and that's a pain, and dangerous, and to me that's what 'running a horse' sounds like, especially when asked by a 12 year old, who only wants to run.

Balance is the key, all the ground work and discipline is needed to be able to safely gallop a horse, and he shouldn't anticipate that being on grass only means galloping.

This isn't just true among horse people! If you work with dogs, everyone else will let you know that they know more than you, too. In fact, there's a saying in doggie circles that goes, "The only thing two trainers can agree on is that the third trainer is wrong!"

This is also true with parents, especially when your kids are small. Everyone is eager to let you know all the ways you're screwing up your kid.
