Why are some people (horse back riders) such Hypocrites2007-11-24 21:23:15

Just be safe, and ignore them.

If by "run" you mean go for a good gallop I'm all for it and the horses love it.

And I do agree there is an equal risk in all things horsey - mine lamed himself for a week when all he was doing was grazing in the field !

I think I overeacted. I do think think that horses can be ruined by girls galloping around, and to an extent it can be dangerous. But I guess you really do have to keep in mind, she is 12 years old... weren't we all like that at one point?
I understand what you mean even though I barrel race. But sometimes it just feels good to go for a nice long run on your horse. My horse loves to run so when I let her have her head and just go it feels like your flying. So I dont' understand why people say that theres more chance you could hurt your horse just running then actually eventing or something like that.
I don't think you should run your horse unless he can win something.You wouldn't want to enter a competition,and then they tell you " there's no prize,but wasn't it fun " ? I don't know,just sounds cruel.
KaliAnn...Horse_lover_23 said she was screwing up her dads horse BECAUSE it was a trotting horse, not a breed designed for galloping (running)...not because it was being galloped all over the place irresponsibly! she was asking what type of horse breed would be best for her as she loved to run, which, by the way, so do most horses, (but some breeds are bred for different disciplines, such as trotting, where running them messes up there paces)...so you are doing EXACTLY WHAT THIS POSTER HAS DESCRIBED...so you make a perfect example and candidate to answer her question...why do you feel the need to do this???
I dont think it's so much hypocritical-To many folks, there is *** out galloping, & then there is cantering-They are different-but I also agree no matter what, there's always a chance something could happen.
I guess I can see both sides. There is a risk of you or your horse or both getting hurt no matter what you do on/with them. I think that it is the carelessness to which each circumstance is handled that people object to. There are lots of people out there who should not own a horse due to lack of knowledge or just pure ignorance (which sounds like the case here due to age). I "run" my horse out on our rides often, but we are also on well known trails. I know that there is a chance he may trip or something but like you said, that chance is everywhere.
I agree most hartedly with you because i hear the exact same thing when I run my horse and I only trail ride.
One: maybe some riders are hypocrites but not all and thats offensive to the ones who arn't.
