well, its because you are gripping with your knees. Try gripping with your calf and thigh. then it wont move good Luck

You're pinching with your knees - promise!!

I had an instructor ones who took thumbtacks and taped them tot he saddle- so when we pinched with our knees, we got pocked HARD. It hurts and usually fixes the problem but its VERY extreme and not for every rider.

I'd reccomend every stride, check your leg position- open that knee off the saddle. The first several rides that you do this, you will over-exagerate the motion and have a huge gap between the knee and saddle. This is normal and a learning curve that should be overcome easily with steady work.

When you pinch with your knee you use different muscles than when you have to close your entire leg (same leg contact from ankle to groin!) which is the ideal contact to keep you on in any discipline.

((B/c you're using different muscles, expect to be pretty sore the first few times you do this.))

If you find it hard to NOT pinch with the knee, then try to get a lunge lesson where you work on your position on the flat (and even over cavaletti if you're into jumping)

One easy way to tell if you're pinching with the knee-- how low is your heel? Its almost impossible to drop your weight through your heel if you're pinching with the knee.

Working w/o stirups is great for a good feel and an independant seat, but its not really going to help you keep your knee off.
