because there are more right handed people then left so everything is done from the right. Some horses have a predisposition for right/left handidness, but it is mostly in how they are handled. If you get a horse off the track they are going to be left sided because they are racing to the left so that is the side they are used to being worked on. I had a TB I got off the track that when i first got him his left shoe had to be 2 sizes bigger then his right. After I had worked him ALLOT on his right he got to the same size, but it took a couple of years.

As the previous post commented, it has alot to do with the initial training a horse has received.

Most people being right handed will tend to train to the right more then the left.

Surprisingly a left handed trainer will train equally only because they have had to become ampidexterious living in a right handed world.

Another small percentage of horses are just simply left handed, just like us.

it is just like a person being right or left handed. they are just stronger on one side than the other. you can help make them stronger on both sides by working them on both sides but it doesnt really matter.

Great question-i think its because most people are right handed-and so they ride righthanded-im left handed and think it gives me an edge so to speak when trying to school a problem horse-although i am always VERY concious of the fact that you really should work a horse equally on both reins-
