Why do some horses tend to be more right handed than left handed
im sure we naturally work our horses on the most comfortable side. There fore if a horse has been worked more on one rein he will become right or left handed the same as we do!!xx
Hi,
I have to ask, are you right handed? I would guess so.
The mistake most people tend to make it when training they only do the exercises one way. You have to be very careful to work both ways equally.
I advise my students to work their non side first that way they don't forget to do it. That is if you are right handed then do all of your training left side first, then right side. So in this way you will always work your non side as much if not more than your natural side. And have a ballanced horse as a result.
Good luck and happy riding.
Believe it or not... horses are born "right or left sided". It happens because a unborn foal lays mostly on his right or left side, and they are stretched more on the side they lay on. This also explains why, when you lunge a horse, they work better one way than they do the other. They are more supple on one side. You just need to get them bending more to their "short side". Lunge the horse and whichever way he goes better, work a little more on the other side.
