Why do some western people leave their horses tacked up in the trailer2007-11-24 21:23:22

I grew up in the English world in Florida, and moved to Texas back in 1992. I was astonished at the first horse trailer I saw flying down the road with a horse in it, no roof, cut about half way down. The horse was sticking his nose out in front like a dog (which is comical now when I look back on it). that was only once though. I do constantly see horse trailers of all different sizes and shapes and load types, with horses some tied and some not- but have their big Western saddles on in the trailer! I was brought up that this was a big no, no. If the horse were to slip (especially in those stock trailers) and catcha hoof in a stirrup...hello broke leg! (at least pulling something if nothing else).

Now don't get me wronge...I am not looking to create war here between English and Western (my very Dearest freind rides Western and barrel races). I am just wanting to know why A LOT of Western people do that?

Answers:

I RIDE WESTERN BUT I STILL DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE DO THAT. it makes me mad its a accident waiting to happen! it makes me so mad when i c this but the people who do it r usually old cowboys and r used to there old ways and r nvr goin to change...

The west isn't known for brains. It's known for slow. You know, like a Purple Heart? Otherwise known as a Slow Medal.

Example:

" You got that medal because you wuz sa - loooow! "

that's a big question.it's mainly the preference of the owner. Sometimes we only have short distances to travel and others feel as if it saves time for when they get to where they're going. I've seen this type of thing all over and although I don't agree with leaving my horses saddled during travel..I'm guilty of it.
I don't think it is just people who ride Western who do that, as I have seen horses wearing English saddles tacked in the trailor. I think it is a personal preference f the rider, and I totally agree with you that it is hazardous to the horse.
Hi! I live in West Texas, and there are allot of Ranches here. Most notably the Four Sixes. The ranch hands that do this normally do so because it is easier for them to have their horse always saddled. They drive from section to section of the ranch to make sure everything is checked out. So instead of removing the saddle every time they have to unload throughout the day the horse is always saddled and ready to go. Just a check of the cinch and a leg over and they're off. Also, when they go in to bring the cows in off the range, it is much easier to have their horse already saddled so they can unload and start getting directions.
