Or..he might just be fresh. Rule out pain first with a vet exam, then if he clears there make sure you longe him to get the edge off before you get on. If you got him fit, it is likely that he has a lot more energy now.

Or...he has been a confirmed bucker his whole life and his previous people lied about it.

I was not clear on the riding with company thing, either. Is he pulling his shenagins when the other horses are with him? If it is only when he is alone he may have gotten used to going out with his pals and he is playing "herd-bound" games with you. If none of this helps, there are too many good horses out there and I would find another one to spend my time on!

Get a vet that you trust to come check him out. A lot of times when a horse bucks, their back is hurting. (although some ponies are down right mean). If he checks out ok, get a trainer! Bucking of course is dangerous, but also life threatening. By the sounds of your inexperience I would not recomend you go at this little guy alone! Also, I don't think is a good idea to be "hacking" around loose horses either (if I understood you explaination properly), you are asking for trouble. Get help-Good Luck!
It sounds like a pain issue to me too. Check your saddle fit very carefully. Look for spots of uneven wear. Have a vet check him out and if it's available an equine chiropractor can really help with problems like this too.
Well, I have a couple of questions. When he bucks do you quit riding him? If so, he has learned a way to get rid of you and just be lazy. You've got to get back on and at least end your riding session on a positive note.you give him a command, he follows it, you get off. He cannot think he's running the show. I've always been told that if you let a horse get away twice with a bad or aggressive act, you've taught him to do it.
