Why does the government back the mustang program They pay thousands of dollars a day2007-11-24 21:23:02

I live in the mid-west and see a waste of good land and cattle being pushed out because of these useless animals. Why don't they cut the studs and end the problem. They are of no use.

They cull the herds on a regular basis, & that is plenty. Do you feel that way about the bison too??

those are wild horses and at times they let people catch them and tame, been trying to find a place in arizona that does the same.

How can you say that wild mustangs are a problem. They have been here since the begining of time. They are beautiful in their natural habitat.How can you want to put one of God's creatures into extinction.What next some small mammal that annoys. Each one does have a purpose even if we do not know what it is.

That was a very ugly thing to say. The Mustangs are a part of this country's heritage they were here first as well they helped found this country and was a very important way to travel the rough lands. Maybe you need to research the Mustangs before you use ugly comments. The government thinks their worth the money so accept it.

You shouldn't be so negative. Those mustangs are part of our country's history. Just think, the Indians broke them and rode them before anyone else was here in this country. What do you want no wildlife, just cities? There is plenty of room for the animals and farms out there to share. It's not just the horses that land is being reserved for, there are other living creatures and plantlife. I think you should pick up an American History book and take some time to read and learn how this country first started out. It might do you some good.

Waste of good land? It is being preserved! Along with the base from which 90% of the horses in this country can claim heritage. I agree with the one who said we should vote to cut you so you don't reproduce! That would be smarter, with your inability to see beyond your nose.

Another answer that represents the whole of the rest of your responses on here. ARE YOU CRAZY? They are beautiful creatures and they were here first! Unfortunately one day we as a race will have pretty much killed off every bit of nature that inhabited this beautiful earth and will be left with nothing but skyscrapers and freeways. The mustang is a reminder of our heritage and our country was founded on their backs. They have just as much right to be here and respected as the bald eagle. Or are they of no use as well and a waste of our land? Get real.

okay...obviously you dont realize that mustangs are the desendants of many different breeds that got loose and never came home...stop your whining...the reason they do it is so they dont go extinct...and they are getting them OFF all the land and to good loving homes.

Ah, another question from our mustang hater. You know, if I had a dollar for every person who thinks that mustangs or any other wild animal are useless and have no value, I'd probably be richer than Bill Gates. Cattle DO NOTHING to protect and preserve good grasslands- THEY DESTROY THEM ! Mustangs will keep natural springs open in the winter, instead of wandering into them to drink and making a mess ( not to mention closing) in them like cows do. Mustang manure reseeds and fertilizes the rangeland on which BOTH they and cattle depend. Mustangs are also a beautiful part of our natural history and heritage, and the heritage of the United States. Our entire civilization in this country was built around the horse, and without horses we could not have done many of the things that we have. Gelding all the mustang stallions would be very expensive and impractical ( who's to say we could even be sure of catching them all to do the surgery?!) and our government has wisely chosen not to spend the taxpayers' money that way.
