Will alfa cubes give my horse a boost in energy2007-11-24 21:23:08

and if it dosen`t then what feed will?

Answers:

Alfalfa cubes wont. If you feed straight alfalfa that would cause the horse to colic eventually and become sick due to the high protein involved. So, I would feed grass hay in the am and alfalfa in the pm. I've heard that feeding cubes, horses could choke on them. Plus I just dont think its natural. I do barrel racing, so to get my horses pumped up before I run, I give them some sweet feed grain called Vitality 14% made by Nutrena. I usually give them about 2 1/2 cups before each run to give them that little sugar boost.

No it wount. They will make it fatter but not have more energy. Give it a little 3 way that will help a lot.
on my pony's alfalfa pellet sack it says 'They supply 'slow releasing' energy in the form of highly digestible fibre, and provide good quality protein as well as a host of natural vitamins and minerals.'

it wont give a mega boost if that is what you mean. my pony hots up easy so this is ideal.

what do you need the energy for? if he isn't acting normal then I would get him checked by a vet as that could be a sign of serious health problems.

make sure she is up to date on all shots and dewormer her on a regular bases because internal parasites could be draining her energy as well.

If you need extra energy I would give him some grain. Oats would do the trick as well as barley or any other grain. Just be extremly careful as to not over load her system as this can cause founder or even colic! gradually introduce the feed over a period of time. Alfalfa works a little bit but too much could add health risks too.
