Will rollers on my Sweet Iron Dee Ring Bit keep my horse from chomping the bit2007-11-24 21:23:24

I have a Sweet Iron Dee Ring Bit & my horse is always chewing on it. I found one with copper rollers on it but I don't want to buy it if its not going to help the chomping problem.

actually I had the same problem... my mare loves to chew... the rollers didnt help at all, it actually made it worse. At times she would roll her tongue on it so much that she would roll her tongue right OVER the bit!! Then she started freaking out that her tongue is over the bit and cant get it back... I dont recommend the roller. She still does it, but I have just ignored it.

No the horse is board if u want him to stop pull back on the reins or do something like running or lope trot stuff like that to make if not so board if you really don't lime it try a hackamore.

Don't quote me on this, but I think rollers are intended to actually encourage a horse to play with the bit.

This promotes relaxation, and loosens up a horse that is tight in the jaws, and, depending on the metal used, can also keep the mouth moist by encouraging the horse to salivate.

This horse is telling you something and you're not listening. He/she doesn't like the bit. Try a gag bit instead. The gag bit doesn't put any pressure on the mouth except when you need it. It lies low and easy in the mouth and these types of horses seem to love them. I know it will work. Borrow one if you can before you buy. But if you can't, ask to bring it back if for some odd reason it doesn't work out.

Rollers actually encourage a horse to play with the bit to produce more saliva.
