Winter coming soon
Winter coming soon2007-11-24 21:23:26
Now at the new barn I have here will do the same except that they do not have a indoor arena there(small price to pay -but my horse is alot happier there and a whole lot better taken care of) so will have to ride outside -bring on the longunderwear, gloves, and oversized sock cap for over my helmet-lol!
i live south of slc and have 3 horses here. heated water buckets are the best. do not blanket them if you don't have to. once you do, you will have to blanket them for the whole winter. i put about 2 tablespoons of plain white salt on their feed at night to help make sure that they drink enough water in the cold weather. i also put about 1/2-2/3 cup of corn oil on their feed at night to help keep them a little warmer. i only feed them alfalfa, the highest quality i can find. plus an assortment of treats.
i live in New England.
I have a lean to and walk in stalls for my guys. They do not need blankets and are fine in bllizards. But i d ohave water heaters in all the trough. I also own a arabian and have to blanket him when it gets 20 or lower. But they should be fine if they have water and another horse to huddle up to.( if there cold enough pecking order won't matter)
